Description: The ICP Agency needs your help in sending information to field agents, who are trying to rescue a patient. Recruits, you will be using your electronic clinical resources to help these agents solve a patient’s issues. After helping the agents, you will participate in “Fast Finder”, an ICP Agency training exercise to see how efficiently you can search up clinical answers.

Acute Care Approaches [On-Demand Podcast]
Description: A patient presents with an acute problem; what do you do? ABCs! One can easily say that, but let’s actually go through and practice what it means to do ABCs. What about adapting it to trauma, toxicology, and triage cases? It’s time to expand the ABCs to the ABCDEs and ABCEDFs! To add to the acute care mix, we’ll cover a review of BLS and resuscitation with COVID-19 considerations, brief pediatric tips in acute care cases, and an approach to altered level of consciousness.

Teamwork Simulation [In-Person Scheduled Session]
Description: Escape games for teamwork skills training? Yes! In the Teamwork Simulation session, you will apply your teamwork knowledge, skills, and attitudes developed from the Teamwork sessions in Year 1, in an activity to demonstrate and reflect on your teamwork skills. We’ll then add on the medical layer during Intro To Code Blue and Beep-Beep Simulation (ICP Part 1) and also in other medical simulations (ICP Part 2). But, let’s focus on teamwork skills first, without having to be distracted by medical content!

Clinical Documentation [On-Demand Podcast]
Description: Documentation will be a frequent task in your clinical rotations. Learn to write a variety of notes! Get tips on how to format and organize your notes. A good note improves communication amongst your team and other health care providers; it also shows preceptors your ability to communicate and synthesize information.

Intro To Code Blue Part 1 (VIDEO) [On-Demand Podcast] and Part 2 (SIM) [In-Person Scheduled Session]
Description: Your patient is… pulseless. Eek! Code blue, code blue! Start CPR! Then what? Intro To Code blue (ITCB) will teach you the steps to resuscitate the patient who has lost their pulse. It will also present a systematic approach to an acute presentation. After reviewing the ITCB Video that covers foundational material, you will participate in simulations that offer lots of repetitious practice to rehearse the process! Please watch the ITCB Video (Part 1) before attending the ITCB SIM (Part 2). To help you prepare for the ITCB SIM, you are invited to review the ITCB Systematic Approach Demo Video.

X-Ray Interpretation [On-Demand Podcast]
Description: Dim the lights! Start the slides! Interpret the x-rays! Out of all radiographic images, x-rays are going to be the most common you’ll encounter. You’ll have the opportunity to practice interpreting chest, abdomen, and bone x-rays in this workshop.

Infection Prevention & Control Part 1 (Online Modules) and Part 2 (Workshop) [In-Person Scheduled Session]
Description: Get ready to immerse yourself in IP&C 3.0, an elevated IP&C educational experience. Begin your IP&C adventure by completing 2 online modules on “Application and Resources” and “Outbreak”. Next, attend the live workshop to complete the “Skill Demonstration” and “Communication” stations. Learn all the practical IP&C things to keep you safe on your rotations! Impress us with your hand hygiene skills!
You should: Complete the IP&C Part 1 modules before attending IP&C Part 2. Links to modules are located in the IP&C Student Manual.

Beep-Beep Simulation [In-Person Scheduled Session]
Description: Beep-Beep! Your pager goes off. Some reasons you may get paged include hyperkalemia, hyperglycemia, chest pain, falls, fever, and agitation. You’ll have the opportunity to work through a few cognitive puzzles to learn about these topics. There are 6 stations, with 4 clinical puzzles each, to complete. After completing all 6 stations, there will be a debriefing and review of all of the topics. BEEP-BEEP SIM is an escape game meets low-fidelity simulation.

Prescription & Orders [On-Demand Podcast]
Description: What are the essential elements to include in prescriptions? What is the format? Learn how to write prescriptions! We will also review how to write admission orders. In this workshop, you’ll have the opportunity to work through a few cases.
Materials:
Note: this session teaches you how to “write orders”. It is important to develop the foundation skill of writing orders. Depending on where you practice, you may be writing orders or entering orders electronically. Calgary is switching over its clinical information system from SCM to Connect Care on May 6, 2023. SCM moves to read-only on June 19 2023, and it will be fully decommissioned on November 2023. Alberta Health Services will contact you to be trained in Connect Care before clerkship begins.
Pain Management [On-Demand Podcast]
Description: OUCH! Pain is so common. Learn about the common types of analgesic options and an approach to manage acute pain. You’ll have the opportunity to work through a few cases.
Materials:
Prez Drillz [Online Scheduled Session]
Description: Apply the F-SOAP model from the “Presentations & Consultations” workshop to 2 oral case presentations. You’ll have the opportunity to present cases, get feedback from your peers and a preceptor, as well as give feedback to each other, to help elevate your presentation game!
You Should: Submit your One45 evaluation to your preceptor before the end of this session. A completed One45 evaluation form is a course completion criterion.

Formative Exam [Online]
Description: Use the online formative exam to review the knowledge content of ICP!
