Course Objective
The overarching objective of ICP is to train medical students to be effective, safe, junior clinicians. ICP is “practical, and practice for your practice”.
Course Description
In Intro to Clinical Practice (ICP), medical students achieve preparedness for clinical rotations by learning and practicing knowledge, skills, and attitudes relevant to all specialties. Students are immersed in practical, hands-on sessions, where unique teaching methodologies such as simulation, role-playing, and gamification enhance student engagement and learning retention. ICP covers a broad scope of topics including acute care approaches, teamwork skills, patient safety, communication skills, and interpretation of diagnostic results.

Course Completion Criteria
- ICP Part 1:
- ATTENDANCE: attend all schedule sessions, unless there is an excused absence
- FORMATIVE EXAM (due last day 4pm): review all podcasts to help complete the online formative exam
- PREZ DRILLZ EPA-6 FORM: have your Prez Drillz preceptor submit an EPA-6 evaluation
- ICP Part 2:
- ATTENDANCE: attend all schedule sessions, unless there is an excused absence
- FORMATIVE EXAM (due last day 5:30pm): review all podcasts to help complete the online formative exam
- LOGBOOK (due last day 5:30pm): signed off on encountered clinical presentations and MecRec (once MedRec completed)
- PREZ DRILLZ EPA-6 FORM: have your Prez Drillz preceptor submit an EPA-6 evaluation
Presentation Drills Make-Up Assignment
- Students will only need to complete this assignment if they are unable to attend the “Prez Drillz” workshop. Absences must be approved by the UME office.
- The assignment will require students to record 2 oral case presentations. The course chair will provide formative feedback and complete a One45 evaluation form on presentation skills, based on the audio recordings.
