ELECTRONIC CLINICAL RESOURCES
Electronic clinical resources will be useful in clerkship! Remember to have resources downloaded to your electronic devices. Also, Lexicomp (drug information database to search up doses) is now available through AHS for clinical clerks. Visit ICP’s ECR site to review how to access various electronic clinical resources as well as Lexicomp.
ON-DEMAND PODCASTS
Click HERE to access the OSLER PODCASTS PAGE to download the following podcasts:
- Handoffs
- This self-directed workshop expands on the F-SOAP model used in the Presentations & Consultations / Prez Drillz session in ICP Part 1. Once a clinical shift is over, you will need to provide a handoff to the next healthcare team. This workshop provides an opportunity to identify potential barriers to effective handovers and review some solutions. Time to practice giving handover!
- Use the HANDOFFS HANDOUT PACKAGE as you work through the Handoffs Podcast
- Cognitive Biases
- “You know that patient you saw the other day who presented with ___? They actually had ___!” Diagnostic errors may occur, because our cognitive biases trap us! In this self-directed workshop, you will learn about Type 1 and Type 2 thinking processes, identify contributing factors to cognitive biases, explore a few different types of cognitive biases, and think of ways to prevent them!
- Use the COGNITIVE BIASES HANDOUT PACKAGE as you work through the Cognitive Biases Podcast
- ECG Interpretation
- This self-directed ECG workshop gives a comprehensive review of all the different elements of an ECG. It contains exercises that will have you focusing only on one aspect of an ECG at a time, so that learning and practice can occur in smaller, easier to digest “chunks”. This workshop as a good mix of material: some easier stuff, some foundational things to review that we may have forgotten without frequent rehearsal, and a practical selection of new stuff.
- Use the ECG SLIDES as you work through the ECG Interpretation Podcast

MED SIM AND SPECIAL SIM (In-person in ATSSL Clinical Simulation Lab) – Tuesday & Wednesday January 2 & 3, 2024
MED SIM
Now that you’ve completed some foundational simulation training in ICP Part 1 (Teamwork Simulation, Intro to Code Blue, Beep-Beep Simulation) and practiced systematic approaches and teamwork skills, it’s now time to apply your knowledge, skills, and attitudes to non-coached, free-flowing simulations. You’ll be working in a student team to manage acute medical cases with a facilitator, who will act as a nurse, and another facilitator, who will operate the patient manikin.
The 4 simulation themes are:
- Altered level of consciousness
- Respiratory distress
- Shock
- Pediatric respiratory distress
SPECIAL SIM
It’s time to take your simulation skills to the final level! The session will throw at you more unique and novel situations. The key is to use a systematic approach combined with a collaborative team effort. These “special” simulations allow you to integrate everything you have learned and to apply your knowledge, skills, and attitudes to any challenge that may come your way.
The 4 simulation themes are:
- Multi-Acute
- Multi-Tox
- Multi-Trauma
- Multi-Patient

ICP FINALE / TIPS & TRICKS
This is the last lecture of pre-clerkship! We are excited to celebrate with you and leave you with some final tips & tricks. The tips & tricks reviewed are under the following categories:
- Studying and Learning
- Communication
- Medical Pearls
- Clinical Performance
- Wellness
After the presenting the tips & tricks, we will reveal the password to the preceptor resources website, so that you can always go back to review the ICP resources. We will then wrap things up with our closing ceremony video. Let’s celebrate with energy and music!
